GHAA HUNTING PROPERTY

Texas Station

  • Cost per person per day $40. Only club members may visit this property. A booking charge of $60 applies per event and is payable when making the booking. A maximum of one week is the permissible period for any one booking.
  • A Chital meat deer is $100 and trophy $1000. Payment for accommodation and meat/trophy to be paid in cash to owner prior to leaving the property.
  • Only members of GHAA may visit a GHAA property and do so accepting all the conditions/rules of GHAA and agree to act responsibly and lawfully in respect to these rules. Additionally he/she shall accept they are guests of the landowner and will respect and have full regard for the landowner’s rights.

 

Property Overview

16,000 acres – Mixture of heavy timbered hills, light scrub and open grassed areas. Approx. 1000 head of cattle on property. The owner (George), who has provided to the club a “letter of permission to hunt”, lives on the property. The hunts are guided by the farm hand, Mike. This situation is ideal for the novice hunter as basic tracking and hunting skills are on display.

 

This property is primarily a Chital deer hunting property. Licensed firearms of an adequate calibre are permitted for the purposes of the hunt. Members dogs are not permitted on GHAA properties.

 

One hunter at any one time may hunt. Be aware at all times of the direction in which you shoot as other hunters/persons may be within range.

 

Accommodation numbers; A minimum of 2 hunters for 2 nights with a maximum of 4 hunters.

 

Facilities available; 4 single beds with mattress on each in two rooms, kitchen stove, some utensils, pots and pans, crockery, cutlery with electric fridge, kettle, toaster, weber barbeque, cold water bathroom/shower and outside toilet. Electric plugs in some rooms enable heaters to be taken if required. Some cleaning materials including brooms are available for cleaning. Wood is supplied for the outdoor fire, which you are expected to tend responsibly. Drink the water provided in the water containers – but not the tap water.

 

What to take; The closest shop is at Texas 5km away. You will require all consumables, towels, toilet paper, etc. Take your own bedding and pillows.

 

Emergency procedure; Phone is available at the landowner’s home 150m away and at the nearby neighbour’s homes. Dial 000.  Members are further directed to the Qld Ambulance Service website where useful advice is provided. www.ambulance.qld.gov.au/firstaid/hints.asp

 

Other conditions/rules

Note!  These conditions/rules to be read in addition to the rules/conditions imposed by the property owner of Texas Station.

 

  • Texas Station owner will require details of names and addresses and licence numbers of firearms.
  • Firearm storage - Unless out hunting, firearms are to be secured as per Qld law. Unless secured in an approved manner in the Lodge then secure in a locked vehicle, make safe and keep unloaded with bolt and ammunition locked away separately.
  • As this property ensures hunts are guided radios are not required.
  • Other than “Texas Station Lodge”, its immediate surrounds no other facilities/sheds are to be used/entered under any circumstances.
  • Safety - Remember to positively identify your target beyond all doubt and ensure that your firing zone is clear.
  • Spotlighting is not permitted unless arranged by the owner.
  • No shooting is permitted within 200m of all buildings/dwellings.
  • Shoot only at game - target shooting/plinking is not permitted on the property.
  • If a deer is taken, all edible meat must be removed from the animal and taken home with you.
  • On completion of the hunt advise the property co-ordinator of your activities as data is being collected for game management purposes.
  • Existing vehicle tracks, only, may be used to access and depart the property.
  • Common sense, caution and adherence to laws must prevail at all times!
  • Alcohol must not be consumed until you have completed hunting for the day and appropriately secured your firearms.
  • Cleaning responsibilities; the lodge and meat safe area are to be left clean and tidy.  All rubbish must be removed and taken with you. Leave it the way you would like to find it.
  • Report breakages, maintenance requirements, unhygienic/cleaning issues and any known neglect of these rules to your property co-ordinator.
  • Members dogs are not permitted on GHAA properties.

DIRECTIONS TO PROPERTY

 

  • Drive to Warwick.
  • Take Warwick to Inglewood Road (route 42).
  • Travel through: Karara, Gore, Yararaba & Graysholm.
  • Just past Oman-ama turn left onto: Stanthorpe, Texas(via Greenup) road. (Approx 80km from Warwick)
  • Travel down this road and at “Y” intersection take road to Texas (via Greenup).
  • Proceed down this road until you reach a “T” intersection (approx 43km from Oman-ama).  Turn left onto Route 89 towards Texas.
  • Owner’s house is on left side of road, approx 17km from the above intersection.
  • Look for a low set, brick house with a green roof, set back 200m off the road, adjacent to a large double door barn.
  • Turn into driveway and park in front of owner’s house.  Make yourself known to the property owner:

“FARNBRO”

  • Cost per person per day $40. Only club members may visit this property. A booking charge of $60 applies per event and is payable when making the booking. A maximum of one week is the permissible period for any one booking.
  • The fee for taking a Fallow meat deer (i.e. doe or spiker with antlers not exceeding 8 inches) is $100. With effect from 1st June 09, A Fallow buck with antlers 20 inches long, or longer, will be $250.00 per buck. Members to be limited to only one Fallow buck with antlers 8 inches long, or longer, per calendar year, regardless of whether it is taken off Farnbro or McLeod Lodge. Members to be limited to a maximum of four pigs, per hunter, per trip, on both Farnbro and McLeod Lodge.
  • Only members of GHAA may visit a GHAA property and do so accepting all the conditions/rules of GHAA and agree to act responsibly and lawfully in respect to these rules. Additionally he/she shall accept they are guests of the landowner and will respect and have full regard for the landowner’s rights.

This property is primarily a Fallow deer hunting property, however pigs, wild dogs, foxes and rabbits may be encountered and may be hunted. Licensed firearms of an adequate calibre are permitted for the purposes of the hunt.

 

The property is divided into two blocks for the convenience and safety of hunters. Ensure you consult the map at the Lodge and remain within the blocks you elect to hunt within. Two hunters at any one time may hunt within a block. Be aware at all times of the direction in which you shoot as other hunters/persons may be within range.

 

Accommodation numbers; Not to exceed 4 hunters - another 2 non-hunters can be accommodated.

 

Facilities available; 6 shearing shed style individual rooms, with single bed and mattress, kitchen with, microwave, electric fridge, kettle, gas stove, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, hot water,  bathroom/shower and toilet. Electric plugs in each room enable heaters to be taken if required. Brooms are available for cleaning. A walk in meat safe and upright freezer are also available.

 

What to take; As the closest shop is at Stanthorpe you will require all consumables, including washing detergents, towels, washing implements, toilet paper, etc. Take your own bedding and pillows.

On completion of the hunt advise the property co-ordinator of your activities as data is being collected for game management purposes. Farnbro/McLeod “Hunt Return” must be filled out and signed off by all members of the party, before you depart the property, as being an accurate record of what took place.  This Return must be posted, faxed or given to the property co-ordinator at or before the next monthly meeting.

 

Other conditions/rules/guidelines

These conditions/rules are to be read in addition to the rules to be found on the notice board and within the “Visitors Book” at Sundown Lodge.

 

  • Farnbro Visitors Book is to be found at Sundown lodge and must be filled in on arrival and signed off on your departure. The book is not to be removed. Firearms Licence numbers must be entered.
  • Firearm storage - Unless out hunting, firearms are to be secured as per Qld law. Unless secured in an approved manner in the Lodge then secure in a locked vehicle, make safe and keep unloaded with bolt and ammunition locked away separately.
  • All hunters must be in possession of a UHF radio.  The property owner operates on “channel 16.” Please note that standard mobile phones do not work in this area.
  • Other than “Sundown Lodge”, its immediate surrounds and the walk-in meat-safe (near the owner’s house) no other facilities/sheds are to be used/entered under any circumstances.
  • Safety - Remember to positively identify your target beyond all doubt and ensure that your firing zone is clear.
  • Spotlighting is not permitted.
  • No shooting is permitted within 200m of all buildings/dwellings.
  • Shoot only at game - target shooting/plinking is not permitted on the property.

  • Existing vehicle tracks, only, may be used to access the property with the exception of the vehicle track that follows the National Park boundary on the east side of the property.  This track becomes extremely steep and must not be used.
  • Whilst many of the tracks on the property are drivable with a 2 wheel drive vehicle, (with sufficient ground clearance and in dry weather), 4 wheel drive vehicles are recommended.
  • Common sense, caution and adherence to laws must prevail at all times!
  • Insurance cover exists for club members only.
  • Alcohol must not be consumed until you have completed hunting for the day and appropriately secured your firearms.
  • Cleaning responsibilities; the lodge and meat safe area are to be left clean and tidy.  All rubbish must be removed and taken with you. Leave it the way you would like to find it.

DIRECTIONS TO PROPERTY

 

  • Drive to Stanthorpe.
  • At Stanthorpe take the Texas Road (via Pikedale).
  • Follow this road until you reach the Texas/Glenlyon Dam intersection (approx 65km from Stanthorpe).
  • Follow road to left towards Glenlyon Dam.
  • Approx 9.9km from this intersection you will come to a farm-gate on your left, signed: “FARNBRO”.
  • If you miss this gate, approx 1km further on  you will arrive at a second gate where there is a road-side sign saying: “FARNBRO”.  This track by-passes a dam and leads to the owner’s house.  DO NOT USE THIS TRACK TO ACCESS THE PROPERTY.  Turn back and use the first gate.
  • Go through the first gate and follow track for a short distance until you come to another gate.
  • Go through this gate and follow track around to the right towards the quarters.  You will be able to see the quarters if it is not dark.
  • Drive through the gate on the left of the cattle yards and proceed around to the front of “Sundown Lodge”.
  • On arrival at Lodge you will need to turn the circuit breaker “on” for the hot water. (Electrical Board in kitchen, above sink).  Also turn the Gas Bottle “on” for the cooker. (gas bottle located adjacent to bathroom).
  • On your departure turn both the hot water and the gas bottle “off”.
